- Do you remember the hilarious The Firesign Theater audio comedy troupe?Dan Lenard sure does. "It was a brilliant group of comedy actors doing audio sketch comedy that was like nothing else in its day," Dan recalls. "Avant garde, ridiculous, irreverent, bitingly satirical and funnier than all get-out!" And tonight, Philip Proctor - an accomplished stage, screen and voice actor, and one of the founding and surviving members of The Firesign Theater - is special guest on the weekly Voice Over Body Shop webcast (starting at 6 pm PT at vobs.tv). "He's kind enough to come join us live in our VOBS studio tonight to talk about his career, the magic of voice, and to tell us how to be spontaneous and let ourselves go when we perform our craft," adds Dan (the Home Studio Master), co-host of the show with VO audio tech guru George Whittam. PS: Dan can't stop gushing about some of his favorite Firesign Theater sketches: "Check out We're All Bozos On This Bus, Don't Crush That Dwarf, Hand Me A Pliers, and The Further Adventures of Nick Danger, Third Eye. "This will be a classic episode tonight - one not to miss," Dan says. George and Dan will also discuss voice over tech issues, plus and editing software in their "DAWVIEW 2017." Little-known fact: on the Ides of March, 1970, my band, Benefit Street, opened for Firesign Theater live at the Veterans Memorial Auditorium in Providence, RI. Yes, it was a big deal, and yes, they were amazing. Very few bands can claim to open for one of the greatest radio troupes ever. Gee, it almost makes up for the million-seller we never had!
